Teresa Hodge| Coming home from prison is too hard

It was a 70-month federal prison sentence, for a white-collar, non-violent, first-time offense, that introduced Teresa Hodge first-hand to the justice system and mass incarceration in America. Upon coming home, she and her daughter Laurin Hodge co-founded Mission: Launch, Inc., a non-profit focused on introducing technology and entrepreneurship to previously incarcerated individuals as a way of ensuring self-sufficiency.  Teresa Y. Hodge, a passionate advocate for people with criminal connections, is committed to reducing the lasting harm caused by prison.   This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Benny Lee | Tedx Naperville| When do prisoners wrongs end, and their rights begin?

The path to rehabilitation of an ex-con is stacked against them. The term itself even carries a stigma. Ex-con turned Adjunct Professor Benny Lee challenges us to re-think what prisoner reform is really about. Benny Lee spent the late 60s through early 80s as a gang leader of the Conservative Vice Lord Nation, eventually spending three years on death row. He is now a community liaison and reentry specialist for TASC, preparing individuals to make successful transitions from incarceration into the community. He also works with communities to help them build their capacity to effectively receive individuals returning home following incarceration. He is a nonviolence trainer for the Institute for Nonviolence Chicago. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Louise Wasilewski | New Ways to help ex-inmates

Louise Wasilewski is an accomplished business leader and former aerospace engineer who believes in second chances. She shares a surprising cause of recidivism and how to avoid it.    Louise is a co-founder of Acivilate, which seeks to overcome recidivism with technology that facilitates information sharing and coordination among caseworkers, probation officers and ex-offenders. A sought after expert on criminal justice rehabilitation, Louise has spoken at events hosted by the American Correctional Association and the American Probation and Parole Association. She serves on committees of the DeKalb County Reentry and Recidivism Task Force, the Greater Gwinnett Reentry Alliance and the Integrated Justice Information Systems Institute.  Louise earned a bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Systems Engineering from the University of Southampton and an MBA from Emory University. She holds four patents.  This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
